Sunshine Day

The floor (and radiator) in my upstairs education office.  It was warm and dry enough for a skirt today and a wander in the burial ground with a visiting group of 7th graders.  Not a bad day.

Wet Grass = Cold Feet

The grass around the houses was wet, wet, wet today, so I've got my shoes off inside to let them - and my feet - dry out a bit.  I snapped this photo on the second floor of a 1740 house.  I really like how the color of the painted wooden floor plays off the red tones in the hooked rug.  Guess I should leave it there.

Gone Fishin'

The floor in my museum classroom just now as I was cleaning up from a homeschool group's visit.  The group ranged in age from >1 to about 7.  And almost all of them loved this activity, magnetic fishing.  You take a string with a magnet on the end, add a bunch of fish with paper clips, and voila!  Fun for all ages.

Another New Photo Series

Let's call it "Museum Doors."  I work around eight different buildings that date to before 1814.  Yup, all of the historic buildings that I interpret/work in/manage are either almost 200 years old, or much older.  And their doors - both interior & exterior - are pretty cool.  So whenever I take a good shot of a museum door from now on, I'll tag it as such so the whole series can be searchable.  Here are three from the last few weeks:

A lovely, large museum tree at the Langdon House in Portsmouth tonight.

Appearances around the Museum

Getting ready to tell the story of women in this city during the Civil War.  Exhibit elements are starting to go up around the museum.  I think this is actually more fun when I'm not actively tasked with exhibit installation.  This way, I get to see things take shape without the frantic rushing around that preceeds an exhibit opening.
