Playing Catch-Up

Whew - can't believe it's been a month since I last posted!  Where has the time gone?  Here is a series of images from the last four weeks of my museum life:

January 30 - Gorgeous 1870s quilt at the museum today.

January 31 - The sun's back!

February 1 - Awesome or creepy attic scene? You decide!

February 16 - Awesome gallery wall in the orientation gallery at the Rosenbach Museum & Library

February 17 - A friend volunteers for the amazing Woodlands in Philadelphia. We got a private tour on Sunday - this is the exterior of the house on the grounds (built in stages between 1774 and 1840).

February 17 - Inside the drawing room at the Woodlands. Gorgeous light!

February 20 - Baking pies late at night for a museum workshop in the morning. Pecan pie on the left and chess pie on the right.

February 21 - The pies the next day, plus the cornbread that I made with my workshop kids.

February 21 - Home early from work that day and rearranged my home office so the desk faces out the window.

February 22 - One of my historic house organizations is renovating their rental apartment and it's been fascinating to watch. This is the kitchen, with new paint, a new light fixture, and newly refinished floors. It's awaiting appliances, drawers, and butcher block counters, but it's gorgeous as is!

Sheen

More museum floors!  And, in answer to your unasked question, I don't know why I keep shooting my feet as well.  Maybe I like seeing my shoes each day as much as I like seeing the floors?

The Cracks

I took this photo of the floor at one of my museum houses today and I realize now that what I love most about it is the imperfections. I carefully chose an Instagram filter that would showcase the cracks, nicks, and scuffs, instead of hide them. I think they add to the beauty.

Sunshine Day

The floor (and radiator) in my upstairs education office.  It was warm and dry enough for a skirt today and a wander in the burial ground with a visiting group of 7th graders.  Not a bad day.

Wet Grass = Cold Feet

The grass around the houses was wet, wet, wet today, so I've got my shoes off inside to let them - and my feet - dry out a bit.  I snapped this photo on the second floor of a 1740 house.  I really like how the color of the painted wooden floor plays off the red tones in the hooked rug.  Guess I should leave it there.

Gone Fishin'

The floor in my museum classroom just now as I was cleaning up from a homeschool group's visit.  The group ranged in age from >1 to about 7.  And almost all of them loved this activity, magnetic fishing.  You take a string with a magnet on the end, add a bunch of fish with paper clips, and voila!  Fun for all ages.

And Another One

In the same spirit, let's call this new photo series "Museum Floors."  They also feature my feet - for scale, I guess?

Sunshine Day

Gotta love a day when the outdoors is much warmer than the indoors.  :)  The museum is still its old, cold temps, but with the side door open and sunlight streaming in, it's starting to warm up.  Don't know how long it will last (supposed to be normal March temps this weekend), but I'll take it while we've got it!

Also - unrelated to the weather, but I love the old wood floors in this room.
