For today's photo, we have a shot of the flags of various empires (French, British, etc.) that flew in New England at various times in the 17th and 18th centuries. They're currently hung in an exhibit that looks at a particular town in the period from 1640-1770. I've noticed that these early years often get lost in the teaching of history, as many local historical narratives go right from early settlement to that town's role in the Revolution. However, there were a number of significant events during this time, both on the European continent and here in North America. "Remember the mid-17th to mid-18th century!" isn't a very catchy motto, though. ;)
